A strong workplace safety culture does not happen by accident. It requires commitment, collaboration and a structured system where both employers and employees work together to identify risks and improve safety practices. One of the most important platforms that supports this effort is the Safety & Health Committee.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Section 30) and the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Committee) Regulations 1996, organisations with 40 or more employees, or those directed by Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH), are legally required to establish a Safety and Health Committee. The purpose of this committee is to create a structured platform where workplace safety issues can be discussed openly, risks can be reviewed and preventive measures can be implemented effectively.
The Effective Safety & Health Committee Training (2 Days) is designed to help committee members understand their roles, responsibilities and legal obligations in supporting workplace safety management. The programme focuses on strengthening the committee’s ability to function effectively as a bridge between management and employees in addressing safety and health concerns.
Participants will learn how to conduct productive committee meetings, review workplace hazards, participate in inspections, and contribute to HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control) processes. The training also covers how Safety & Health Committees can support the planning of safety initiatives such as emergency drills, safety campaigns and awareness programmes that help build a proactive safety culture within the organisation.
Beyond compliance, an effective Safety & Health Committee helps create a safer and more positive working environment. When employees feel that their safety concerns are heard and addressed, trust increases, morale improves and productivity naturally follows.
